General
What is ZumCast?
A Mac screen recorder with an AI editor, Zumi, that runs on your Mac. One recording becomes a polished video, vertical clips, a GIF, a step-by-step guide, an interactive demo, translated captions and sharp screenshots.
When can I download it?
ZumCast is in final testing. The download will appear on this site at launch. Until then, the changelog shows what has been built.
Is there a Windows version?
A Windows app is in development and reads the same project files. The Mac app comes first.
What does ZumCast replace?
For many people: an auto-zoom screen recorder, a screenshot and markup tool, a step-by-step guide tool, an interactive demo builder and an AI video editor. See the comparison, or add up your own tools.
Zumi & AI
What is Zumi?
Zumi is ZumCast's editing agent. You ask in plain English or by voice, it shows a plan on the timeline, and nothing changes until you press Apply. One Undo reverses the whole plan. It runs on your Mac with Apple's on-device model where available and a built-in planner everywhere else.
Will AI edits look obvious?
You see every change before it happens, cuts in red and new zooms in gold, and you can adjust or cancel. Nothing is applied on its own.
What can I ask Zumi?
Cutting pauses and fillers, zooms and 3D angles, captions and translations, new formats, blurring private details, branding and Polish, voice cleanup and voiceover, and screenshot edits like numbering steps or tilting. Mix several in one sentence. See examples by category.
Does Zumi need the internet?
No. Zumi plans on your Mac, so it works with Wi-Fi off, and your recording isn’t uploaded to plan an edit.
Can my AI assistant use ZumCast?
Yes, through the command-line tool and the MCP server. Anything an assistant starts shows on screen, unsigned requests ask you first, and you choose whether assistants can search your library.
Recording & editing
Can I record my iPhone?
Yes. Plug your iPhone into your Mac and record its screen, then edit it like any other recording.
How does the teleprompter work?
Your script scrolls as you speak and stops when you stop, so there’s no speed to set. Speech recognition runs on your Mac and works offline.
Can I edit by deleting words?
Yes. Delete words in the transcript and the video cuts with them. Fillers and long pauses can be removed in one go.
Does ZumCast record what I type?
No. Typed characters are never recorded, only that typing happened, plus ⌘ and ⌃ shortcuts so they can appear on screen.
What does one-click Polish do?
It does the cleanup, applies your brand kit and makes your versions in one step. Like a Zumi plan, it’s one Undo.
Screenshots
What can I capture?
An area, a window or a whole display, a scrolling page as one image, a web page at phone, tablet or desktop width in light or dark, text from anything on screen, and GIFs straight to the clipboard.
What can I do with a screenshot?
Add arrows, numbered steps, a spotlight, text and blur; set it on one of 102 wallpapers; add a device frame or tilt it in 3D; pin it over your work; or turn it into a short video.
Does Zumi work on screenshots?
Yes. Ask it to blur anything private, number the steps, make a 16:9 social image, tilt it or copy the text. Try it in the playground.
Exports
What can I export?
MP4, MOV and GIF up to 4K and 60 fps in 16:9, 9:16, 1:1 and 4:5. Guides as PDF, Markdown, HTML and interactive demos. Screenshots as PNG, JPEG or PDF. Captions as SRT and VTT.
Can I export every version at once?
Yes, with Pro. Export all makes every version, named and ready, in one click.
What’s in a step-by-step guide?
A numbered step for each click, with a full-resolution screenshot and a line taken from what you said. Export it as PDF, Markdown or HTML, or as a clickable interactive demo.
Privacy & security
Do my recordings leave my Mac?
No. Recording, transcripts, captions, redaction, organising and Zumi all run locally, and the app works with Wi-Fi off. A video is uploaded only when you make a share link.
What does smart redaction find?
Emails, API keys, card numbers, IBANs, IP addresses, phone numbers and faces, plus money and names when you ask. It runs on your Mac, follows them as a video scrolls, and the blur is burnt into every export.
Do you collect analytics?
The app can keep crash and performance diagnostics on your Mac. That’s off by default, and nothing is sent; you can attach them to a support email if you choose. This website uses no cookies or analytics.
What stops an assistant from recording quietly?
Anything an assistant or script starts shows on screen, unsigned requests ask you first, and you choose whether assistants can search your library. Security notes.
Pricing & licences
How much does ZumCast cost?
Basic is free. Pro is a one-time purchase: $49, paid once, and that version is yours to keep. At launch the first 100 customers pay $9, the next 100 pay $19, then it's $49. There's no free trial of Pro; Basic is free for as long as you like, so you can record, edit and test exports before you buy.
What's in the free version?
Basic has unlimited recording and editing. Exports are limited: videos export the first half, up to 30 seconds, with a “Made with ZumCast” watermark and end card; GIFs up to 10 seconds with a watermark; screenshots with a small watermark; guides and demos the first 3 steps. Zumi makes 3 plans a day. Captions files, Export all and share links need Pro.
What are major upgrades?
Pro includes every update to the version you bought, including fixes and new features within it. When a new major version comes out, upgrading is optional at $9 a year. If you don't upgrade, the version you have keeps working, with everything you paid for.
Do you offer refunds?
Our refund policy will be published here and in the terms before Pro goes on sale.
Is ZumCast a subscription?
No. Pro is a one-time purchase and the app never needs a subscription. Teams that want a shared cloud workspace can add ZumCast Cloud for teams.
What if I need more storage for share links?
Pro includes 5 GB for share links, and each link lasts 90 days. If you need more, add 50 GB for a year with a one-time $9 top-up. It doesn't renew. Your recordings stay on your Mac either way; only share links use cloud storage.
Teams & cloud
What is ZumCast Cloud for teams?
An optional add-on: a shared workspace and library, team-only links, comments and reactions, and 50 GB per seat, pooled. It’s $3 per person per month, billed yearly. More about Cloud for teams.
Do members need Pro?
Yes. Each person uses their own Pro licence for the app. Pro is a one-time purchase, and Cloud for teams adds the shared workspace on top.
What happens if we stop?
Team links stop working after the paid period ends. Everything stays on your Macs, and each person keeps their own Pro.
Can we change seats?
[Seat policy to be confirmed: adding and removing seats mid-year, and how charges are adjusted.]
Accessibility
Is ZumCast accessible?
Yes. VoiceOver labels on every control, full keyboard navigation, a contrast-checked dark theme, and support for Increase Contrast, Reduce Motion and Reduce Transparency.
Can I use ZumCast with only a keyboard?
Yes. Every flow works from the keyboard, including the timeline and Zumi: ⌘↩ applies a plan and Esc cancels it.

Which Macs does it run on?
macOS 14 Sonoma or later. Zumi's free-form requests use Apple Intelligence on Macs that have it; the built-in planner handles common requests on every Mac.
Do I need Apple Intelligence?
No. Free-form requests to Zumi use Apple Intelligence on Macs that have it. The built-in planner handles common requests on every Mac running macOS 14 or later.
